To Sustain Health Care System Hard Decisions Might Need to be Made

Written by Brian Lemon
The following essay describes a couple of economic destroyers of the viability of our public health care system, and a solution - sure to be controversial, perhaps unacceptable for humanists. But hard decisions need to be made.

Our sacred cow of a health care system is leaking milk. Badly.

We all know that, and blame greedy doctors and nurses, crafty pharma companies, shifty administrators, unionized cleaners, and cowardly governments.

“But folks”, as Pogo said, “the enemy is us.”

Fear disguised as "sensitivity"

Written by The Reclusive Antiquarian
Raymond de Souza highlights the deception that most Western media are hiding behind in relation to the Muhammad cartoons:

Doug Kelly, the Post's editor-in-chief, told me flatly that his decision not to publish the cartoons to date was an editorial one, made on principle, not from fear of reprisals. He added that he would not publish an offensive image of Jesus in similar circumstances.

Calgary Herald - University of Toronto allows controversial student-led debates on Middle East

Written by Ian
This past week, a group of Jewish students held a weeklong series of debates called Know Radical Islam, and next week the Arab Students Collective are hosting Israeli Apartheid Week, with lectures including one entitled The Myth of Israeli Democracy. The discussions culminate with a protest in downtown Toronto on Feb. 18.

There are a couple of things that I don't like about the above paragraph. For one, why call it "radical" Islam?

POLITICS AS USUAL: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, GARTH?

Written by B-Double
Now, c'mon Garth.

I've read your bio. You're a smart guy.

You've written books on personal finance, and you're the CEO of one of the largest independent producers of network programming in the country.

And you know how the public stage works.

Liberals, Liberals, Liberals,

Written by Zednik
The reaction to David Emerson and the days I have had to think on it have led me to believe that I think Emerson the man is by far the best person for the job, not just for the Conservatives but for the Lumber Industry of BC and the City of Vancouver in general.

I find myself wondering if many of the Liberals that are carrying signs, and dreaming of a recall truly do believe what they are saying to media outlets and the like.

Wait 30 Minutes After Eating Before Reading This...

Written by TrustOnlyMulder
...Because you are about to go off the deep-end.
Reginald Denney in the Ottawa Citizen is reporting about $2.3 Million being spent on a boat transport system to haul boats around the Chat's Falls at Fitzroy Harbour. For those who aren't sure what I mean, a boat transport system they are talking about would entail hauling a boat out of the water on one side, and driving it up past the falls and dropping it in on the other side. (or vice versa). i.e. a couple of boat launches and a transport. The cost to the boater? $50 per trip and 24 hours notice.

Cartoons a Test for Canadian Multiculturalism

Written by Brian Lemon
It has been questioned by many commentators, as well as this one, that the Canadian system of ghettoization of new Canadians deserved scrutiny. Are we building a nation, when newcomers are encouraged to live here the way they lived there? And aren't we presumptive to believe that immigrants want the same system of laws and way of life as that they sacrificed greatly to leave?

Toronto the not-so-good

Written by Canadi-anna
Greater Toronto Hotel Association President Rod Seiling, and Bruce MacMillan, President and CEO of Tourism Toronto, are lamenting the lack of tourism and suggesting that both the provincial and federal governments should fork over cash to revitalize the tourism industry in the city.

Both men seem to believe that the tourism numbers are low due to lack of marketing, suggesting that Americans still think we're all about moose, Mounties and mountains. This shows an utter lack of critical thinking skills, a myopic perspective of recent events and a sterotypical view of Americans as ignorant. Gee, I wonder why they aren't coming?

Rap-Tories

Written by Brian Lemon
The Tories - Led by a guy "not fit to lead" said the Toronto Star.
The Rap-tors - "incompetent coach", said the Toronto Star.
Problem with the Star is that they can't drive to the right, so they always shoot off the wrong foot, bro!
